Man Arrested After Armed Robbery

Victoria, BC – Officers with VicPD, Saanich Police, the Integrated Canine Service (ICS), and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) arrested a man in Saanich this afternoon in relation to a robbery with a firearm in Victoria last night.

 

At approximately 8 p.m. last night Patrol officers responded to a report that two youths were robbed at gunpoint in the 3100-block of Douglas Street. A man on a bicycle approached the teenagers, produced a firearm, and stole a number of personal items from them. No one was physically injured in the incident.

 

Numerous officers with VicPD, Saanich Police, and an ICS K9 team responded to the area. However, the suspect fled on a bicycle. Despite a lengthy search of the area, the suspect was not located.

 

This afternoon, after continuing to investigate this incident, officers located the suspect within a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 3200-block of Douglas Street in Saanich. Officers with VicPD, Saanich Police, the ICS and the GVERT responded. GVERT, including Crisis Negotiators, worked to resolve the incident and the suspect surrendered to police without incident. A second occupant of the suite was also arrested and later released on scene. Traffic was disrupted in the 3200-block of Douglas Street for the duration of the incident.

 

Officers transported the man to VicPD cells where he was held in custody pending further investigation.

 

This incident remains under investigation.

Wesley Ronald HANC (born 1992) was arrested by ERT Sunday and charged w/robbery and use firearm. Has lengthy previous in the Victoria area from 2018, including robbery, firearm, PPT, Utter Threats and multiple breaches, with sentences up to about 230 days. Originally from Oshawa.
