TC:
Wirth, the Pacific FC goalkeeper who hails from Comox, withstood 10 shots from inside the 18-yard-box in the first half, making numerous point-blank stops to keep the game scoreless after the first 45 minutes.
But goals early in the second half at 47 and 54 minutes for Forge (1-1) silenced the crowd of 2,609 at Westhills and sent the visitors to their first win of the second half of the Canadian Premier League season, while dropping Pacific FC to 0-2 in the summer/fall portion.
“Nolan did extremely well but I thought at the other end, in the second half, we could have had one or two more [goals], so it was a tough loss,” said Pacific FC head coach Michael Silberbauer, whose team’s overall record on the season drops to 3-7-2.

It was good to see at least a modest increase in attendance on Saturday along with a convincing win.

Cavalry FC are in Vancouver tonight to play the struggling Whitecaps. The 'Caps are bottom on the league, on a losing streak, traded away their talent, and are bleeding fans as a result. Will be interesting to see what kind of a crowd they draw at BC Place.
The previous match in Calgary was a 0-0 draw.

That 0-0 draw is pretty key as well, because now the 'Caps need nothing short of a win to advance. Cavalry FC will advance with a win or a 1-1 or higher draw, and we'll get penalties with another 0-0 draw.
All three CPL teams are actually in decent enough positions to advance in tonight's second leg matches of the Canadian Championship. If any one of them do, it'll be a huge win for the CPL. Heck, York9 FC was mere minutes away from taking the first leg against the Montreal Impact.

Cavalry FC advances after an utterly embarrassing show by the Whitecaps. The 'Caps dominated in all numbers except goals...

Huge result for a new team in the league's first year to knock out an MLS club.
And as I pointed out to some friends, PFC has now done something the Caps never have: beaten Calgary.

The Whitecaps are a joke, though.

It's a big deal in a hilarious super embarrassing for Vancouver sort of way.

in a perfect world the attendance would be growing this season and that would bode well for next year. but i'm not sure that's going to happen here. i think that they are 2-3k average below where they wanted to be to be viable.
the league average here is about what the victoria royals average. but the royals do not have to pay players much they do not travel by plane and they have more than twice the number of home games to generate revenue (36 vs. 15 in the regular season and always more playoff games).
for pacific fc our average is likely to drop below 3000 soon and stay there for this season. that's at least 1000 less than they had planned for. and 1000 extra seats filled is about $375000 extra revenue.

I think that is a good idea as the late start made it hard for kids on a school night. Having said that, the reason I was told for the 8PM start was that traffic is so bad in the west shore that there was concern that people outside of that area wouldn't come as there wouldn't be enough time to have dinner and then get to the game.
