suffering by who?
Despite tens of billions of dollars and a decade plus since reconciliation has been in the forefront. can anyone say that the average FN resident living on a reserve has had their life improved? I still see just as many run down houses, reserves without clean drinking water and people on the streets.

I would not mind a name change.
as long as it’s soumthjng that sounds pleasant.
Camosun is great!
I’d vote for “Camosun Regional District”, if there were such a thing as voting on CRD stuff.

The relatively large South African city of Port Elizabeth just changed its colonial name to Gqeberha. Stuff like this is happening everywhere. It’ll happen here too. I’d welcome a cool name change.
SA long ago began renaming major streets, too.
Port Elizabeth is a beautiful place. Paradise. Heck that whole country is a paradise and it’s a crying shame the political and social state of that nation.
Know it all.

And there were other, far older names before QCI….

I like that!
CRD would get to keep its initials.

I think we're giving this whole renaming thing far too much oxygen.

Also the people who originally named the streets are no longer the majority or in power.

Well, Some of us live in 'Saanich', others in 'Esquimalt', 'Nanaimo', 'Penticton', 'Kitimat'...the list goes on...
Changing the name to reflect the actual history here, rather than the
settlerimmigrant one wouldn't be the worst thing.I could handle living in "Camosun'.
So if Victoria changes its name to Camosun, can Langford change its name to Victoria?

If Victoria changes it's name I will just say I am from Vancouver Island.

I'd go for a name change, I'm tired of my internet search results coming back with results for Hong Kong, Australia and Mrs. Beckham.
How about Helpsville?
Or variations of - Hempville? Hempisvile?
Isittgrad?

Camosun sounds great, but Camosack doesn’t.
Good luck to Destination Camosack, because they’ll need it.
“Hey, wanna go to the ‘sack for the weekend? We’ll get an Airbnb.”

If a name change was part of a package deal with amalgamation I'd hope that it'd be something where the top 3 names would be put to referendum of residents of the amalgamated city. Of course, Victoria has a brand & name recognition, and a name change would mean a lot of work to rebuild on that. Not to say it wouldn't be something that could be good, it might be, particularly given the damage to the brand over the last 7 years.
If I were to call here something else, what would it be? I'm rather fond of Grand Salish (we're a capital City and it seems we should be grand). I'm not particularly keen on a nod to any particular first nation group here because the territories overlap.

Victoria has a brand... does it though? It's gone from Holt Renfrew to Dollarama in literally one election cycle.
Amalgamation with a new name for the amalgam might be acceptable. Right now Victoria = Skid Row, so basically anything is an improvement!
