So our tax dollars are funding the Crisis Response Assistance Program…better known as CRAP.

I would suspect that most "mental health" calls received by the 911 operators involve some concern over personal safety and the 'team' won't be in a rush to test their theories on their ability to talk the person off of the cliff so to speak. Calls then will require 2 cops plus 4 mental health spectators.

Just more jobs for the poverty pimp brigade. Have to give jobs for your supporters many of whom would otherwise be unemployed.

The news story I saw said it would be the dispatchers who would decide. Yikes, hope they take time to get all the info, by which time who knows what will have happened.

I wonder how total police time for a typical mental health encounter actually plays out. Meaning, how much time is the personal interaction, versus the supporting paperwork and handholding. Might me nice if some of that was transferred away from the police.

Which means then it most cases they will want to CYA and send the police as well. Nobody would want to be held accountable for only sending the response team and then having an injury or death.

Advocate for homeless charged with ‘rare’ Victoria bylaw offences

TIMES COLONIST

Activist Kym Hines, right, with supporters at the Victoria Courthouse Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. Hines is facing three charges of obstructing city employees in the performance of their duties in Central and Beacon Hill parks last fall.

Friends of a local homeless advocate rallied at the courthouse Wednesday during his first appearance on three City of Victoria bylaw charges.

Kym Hines is charged with obstructing or interfering with a city employee in the performance of his duty at Central Park on Nov. 3 and Dec. 5, and at Beacon Hill Park on Nov. 6 contrary to the city’s parks regulation bylaw.

“This is a serious David and Goliath situation,” said Hines’ lawyer Cara Hunt. “The city has deep pockets, unlimited funds to hire a private lawyer at a private firm to prosecute it as far as they want to go — and there’s Kym. We believe they do not have a case.”

I like how they say it’s a David v Goliath. The activists also have bottomless legal funds, provided to them by our elected officials (ie our tax money). So it really is Goliath v Goliath.
The only people who do not have legal support are those that support the legal support for those activists and their government. Grrr.

A makeshift community has formed at Esquimalt Lagoon due to challenges finding housing in the Greater Victoria area.

Samantha, who prefers her last name to remain anonymous, told Victoria Buzz that she began living in a rooftop tent over her Jeep after her landlord evicted her and her partner three months ago.

https://www.victoria...-rental-crisis/

Renters are falling through the cracks, and the 30-car community, Sam said, is brimming with full-time workers looking for full-time housing.

_____

But finding a rental that suits his needs has been a painstaking process since according to the National Occupancy Standard (NOS), single parents need to have a separate bedroom for their child.

This is a challenge to Peter who cannot afford a two-bedroom home and does not qualify for government support and subsidies due to his salary which is close to $60,000 a year.

Is that thing about a separate bedroom an actual law? When my daughter's friend was young, she and her mum lived in a one bedroom suite and the mum slept on the couch. I also don't see what's wrong with a parent and child sharing a bedroom and having two beds.

Interesting that when there’s a Covid outbreak at a long term care facility Island Health reports the name of the establishment, the number of cases and deaths (if any) and how many were staff and how many residents.  When the same thing happens at a shelter all this is secret due to “privacy concerns.”

Have there been some? I thought the whole idea of getting them all free housing was to avoid the disease…

Multiple clusters of COVID-19 cases have been identified in Victoria’s temporary housing facilities.

BC Housing confirmed the presence of several cases among residents of its housing sites Friday.

Bylaw has STOPPED enforcing camping on the 900-blk of Pandora

Tents are now forming on 800-blk Pandora

24/7 camping is here to stay

Why aren't they cleaning up?

Turns out, @CityOfVictoria Clean Up Crew refuse to go due to safety concerns

They should send social workers…(might actually work)

So they are infected and allowed to live outside and do whatever they want?

That homeless woman by the door of Yates market yesterday was deliberately couching on people as they exited the store. The security guard was there and said nothing.
