So leave the cashier alone and request to speak to the manager to both raise the issue of policy and their failing to properly manage their charges. Make sure you get the right haircut first though...

That’s not how it works. Consumers don’t typically go looking for inconveniences like waiting for managers to show up so they can ask them questions cashiers should have the answer to.

Otherwise, what’s the difference between an automated check out and a cashier?

No, that's exactly how it works.  If the cashier doesn't know something you think they should then their manager is the point of contact.  If one can't be bothered then one should just leave the store and complain about it on the internet instead.

The difference between an automated check out and a cashier is that you can lie to the automated checkout about how many bags you used and you might get away with it.

There’s usually a human tasked with watching your bag intake at the self checkout. You’re more likely to be caught with a stolen 25 cent back than the guy with the stolen $10 brick of cheese.

Are you suggesting greedy grocery store owners are just pocketing the money?

“can I have a bag please” paper or plastic? “plastic” it’s pay-per-bag “No I want a plastic bag” yes it’s pay-per-bag

Bags cost something although most businesses are not paying $.25 for paper and $2 for reusable. If they plan to charge they should be up front about it though to give the consumer a chance to take their business elsewhere if they choose.

Today is the last day for free plastic bags in the core government liquor stores. Starting tomorrow they're going all paper and if you're the first few hundred people in line tomorrow morning you'll get a free reusable bag which is a great bonus for you day drinkers.

Any remaining plastic bags are being shipped to Langford stores and other regions that still use plastic.

So the Province has determined that plastic bags are harmless in the west shore. That's some interesting "climate science".

You'd think in the Premier's own riding they'd want to set an example.

My take from this is that banning "single use" plastic bags is 95% political motivation and 5% concern for the environment.

Save-Ons won't give you a plastic bag at the check-out any more, but...

Funny how all that plastic is significantly (at least the way I would use it) less useful than the plastic check-out bags for subsequent uses.

I have a nice sturdy Purdy's chocolates 'single use checkout bag' that I toss mucky shoes into after a trail hike or whatever.  Used it several times now.

Yes it gives the appearance of doing something about plastic bags .
Similar to appearing busy when the boss walks by .

Was out for a walk tonight, realized halfway through that I just used up my last two eggs.

Stopped in at Save On to buy some.  No bag - great.

It's surprisingly irritating carrying a dozen eggs with no bag.  You can't just leg them dangle from your hand otherwise you risk dropping them, so you have to carry them with your hand wrapped underneath, cradling them.  This gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.  Plus, to avoid onlookers wondering if you're about to egg a municipal vehicle you have to carry the receipt with them which exposes you to BPA.

Just bring back the damn bags already.

Oh, and Subway at Oak Bay Junction still has the silly BYOB signs up and is charging $0.15 for a paper bag that's twice as big as it needs to be.  The plastic ones were fine.

were you thinking of eggs or at least your fridge situation on your walk?  or do you get an e-mail alert or notification from your fridge?

There's no need to walk on eggshells about this. He whips up a protein shake before embarking on his nightly constitutional.

Either that or he carries his fridge on his back to really crank up the intensity. And he was thinking, "This seems lighter than it should be."

What if there’s an egging up the street and an innocent shopper is caught walking down the road with a carton of eggs? Suspect #1 right there. Try as you might, but talking your way out of that predicament wouldn’t be easy.
