Hopefully, if true, this Vancouver import does better than Meat & Bread.
Flying Pig serves brunch, so it will do well

Dev Tracker has been updated: the application is for a pot shop.
The re-zoning application is for the space where the former subway was (unit 103). The Serious Coffee will be a Wine/Tapa bar that is supposed to open in the summer.

Nice! Any idea on who the operator of the tapa bar is?
Know it all.

Yes, it's a local family that thought that a wine bar/tapa type of place was missing from the Village.

Right, the pot shop is 103-230 Cook.

So it's not someone/a group we're already familiar with, but a new entrant onto the culinary scene?
Know it all.

From John's Place FB page:
Usually a "Dear John" letter but today a "From John" letter,
When I arrived from LA, in 1982, there was only one local breakfast joint, Goodies. (Remember?) I was 26 years old. I wanted to create a local joint, hangout, that we all remembered from the 60's. Real Food at Real Prices became our motto and I have never forgotten that, even after 34 years.
It has been my absolute pleasure to teach and cook for everyone. As in life, it's time for another change. I would like to have a little more balance in my life and concentrate on the day service only. So this Saturday April 21st, will be our last dinner service. I am cooking this week so please stop by, say hello, I'll be cooking a few past favourites.
Our new hours will be:
Monday -Friday: 7am - 3pm for breakfast and lunch
Saturday-Sunday: 8am - 3pm Brunch only.
We will still have amazing desserts, take them home with you if you'd like.
I want to thank everyone for all your kindness and encouragement. I really appreciate that.
John Cantin
PS: Me and my family are still gonna cook the special occasion dinners ex Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Fathers Day. I’ll keep you updated.

Whew, until I read the whole thing I was getting worried. As long as it's still doing breakfast and lunch (lunch pfft, brekky all day for me!) then fine by me.

I am at John's Place on average of once a week for lunch. If they were closing for good, your would have heard me scream.

...I guess I'll have to check them out for brunch now.
Check out their weekday bottomless soup. It can't be beat for value (or taste!).

There's a rumour in the neighbourhood that the former Serious Coffee will become Tim Horton's. I'd personally prefer the wine bar, though I know that some would prefer TH's...

Oh god, not another pot shop! I'm curious as to whether they will all survive.
