It’s out of sight/out of mind for locals in a way, but it’ll develop a following as long as prices are right.
In recent years the distinction between 'tourist' eateries and 'local' eateries has greyed, and that's definitely a positive development. For example, both Frankie's Modern Diner and 10 Acres are arguably in the heart of the 'Tourist Zone' but serve a strong local following as well and my friends and I tend not to eschew these places on the basis of location.
Our only local outlet of Milano Coffee is in this zone too, but I'm happy to go down there for their great espresso...

If ferries ever gets off its ass and fixes their Fulford ferry terminal problems, we are planning to move to a somewhat similar model.
What issues are there with the Fulford terminal?

This has been a huge issue on salt spring for a long time, with cars snaking well up the hill from my terminal and requiring people who want to get into the village to drive the *wrong way* down the road for quite a good distance to just get home or to shop or drop people off at the ferry etc.
There was a vessel change on the Crofton - Vesuvius run this year which has lead to similar issues in Vesuvius, with people unable to get home and in some cases unable to get out of their driveways.
The argument being that Ferries shouldn’t be allowed to use the public roadway as a parking lot and should provide adequate parking for their customers. This year ferries hired flaggers nearly every day to keep things relatively safe.

Had dinner at the Deep Cove Chalet the other night, food was excellent, service was excellent, dog having the run of the place - not so excellent.
At one point his head was in my lap as I was eating my dinner.

Clearly this free-range meat fad is out of hand.

^^ Is having a dog in the dinning room even legal? Did you see him wander into the kitchen?

I didn't see him (I'm making a huge assumption he is a him, it's name is Victor) go in the kitchen but then I wasn't watching for that either, but he had free run of the dining room.

Is it the star anise in the pho or the chilies in the oil? I'd just be hungry all the time if I lived there
