“ It’s a particularly hot and sunny Monday afternoon, and the buzz of the weekend has grown considerably quieter. But on the corner of Herald and Government streets, punk music bellows in the afternoon haze, while passersby peer into what’s become of the old Sager’s Furniture store.”

"The bar announced it was temporarily closing its doors back on June 16, and seemingly never was able to reopen.
CHEK News has reached out to Shark Club to ask what factors prompted the closure."
Hmmm I wonder what could have happened in the last few years that would have impacted their business....

It’s been open for more than 19 years though. That’s an error.
Not necessarily as the Shark Club. There was the Colony at one time on that site, then there may have been something else (I forget), then it became Shark Club when the building was re-done.
That said, it may have been open as Shark Club for a few more than 19 years, but not many.

The Colony closed in 1993.
The Shark Club Vancouver opened in 1993.
I know that by 2000 the Shark Club here was already very well established. But I'm struggling to find an exact date.
It’s the end of an era for a once popular bar near downtown Victoria after 29 years in business.
Shark Club, a staple in the Victoria area since 1993 in the Sandman Hotel on Douglas Street, took to social media Sunday to announce the establishment had permanently closed as of September.

I think it was Matt R. that posted about The Farmer's Daughter wine and cheese bar in Sidney and that they have a good fondue.
I went to their website and saw a picture of a grilled cheese sandwich that looked incredible.
I've been jonesing about this sandwich ever since. I'll let you know how it was after I devour one. It might go down good with their French Onion soup....another one of my favourites.
Thanks for messing with my appetite Matt.

A bylaw allowing businesses to temporarily expand their patios into public spaces has been extended to the end of March.
The Business Recovery from Pandemic Bylaw and related Build Back Victoria program, which permitted the patios so businesses could meet pandemic-related social distancing requirements, had been due to expire at the end of this month.
The program has been extended twice to help with economic recovery as the pandemic started to wane and restrictions were relaxed.

Does anyone at City Hall consider that some progressive restaurants would appreciate being able to plan - for next sumer - soon?
