Craigslist:

Seoul Restaurant (Fort. St.) is now in the process of turning into a Hawaiian cultured BBQ cuisine - a fusion of Asian foods that will have a greater menu selection.

My guess is it's for Brown's Socialhouse opening soon in The Falls' podium. Odd operating hours for a restaurant/pub, though, so it could be something else.

In other news, the Dairy Queen on Douglas and Bay is having some work done to its exterior. The restaurant is being modernized to conform to DQ's new strip mall architectural motif.

Know it all.

Nah, Brown's will be open in the day too, and maybe later than 12. Maybe the Topos space is re-opening? It has a bar up top, plus a few tables, right?

Yeah, I just edited my post after I thought about that for a sec. You beat me to it.

I can't think of any space that's currently being reno'd or has advertised as opening soon.

Maybe it's something to do with the old Boom Boom Room location?

I thought that guy saw someone demoing it just a day or two ago? Quite frankly, I would not hire until the week before you open for business. These guys are interviewing this week.

I noticed the ad said "hostess". Isn't it illegal to advertise for only one gender*? Shouldn't it say Host/Hostess? Even though the odds of a guy being hired for this entry-level job is about a million to one. I see this on Craigslist/UsedVictoria all the time. A few spelling errors in that ad, too. I guess "attention to detail" is no biggie.

*I know there are exceptions, like personal care assistant.

The old Boom Boom location will become a restaurant complete with outside patio seating.

I hope it does better than whatever opened up on the water side of the Regent Hotel - Lido or something?

Ha!

I looks like FOO is adding a patio extending out towards Blanshard. Lots of guys working there today, but it didn't look substantial enough to be anything more than forms for a concrete pad or a wood-plank deck in progress.

I'm not sure if it's been posted but I wanted to try Naanwich out on douglas after enjoying their location after getting lost while hungry around Tillicum mall. The last few days I've tried to go there for lunch to see but they've had the doors locked. No sign, nothing, just locked. So I emailed them and found out they're selling that location due to no staff. Apparently there's no one in the city that can make indian wraps?? Oh well.

Tamami Sushi has closed, but I guess they will return any souvenir chopsticks.

^I've never been there. We peeked in but decided to go with Kaz around the corner with its superior reputation.

The interior doesn't look particularly Japanese. Those arched windows are great (even though we were told arched windows weren't very Old Town...) ;)

I've been there a few times it was pretty good.

So in other news Shiki Sushi has moved to where that Internet Cafe was on Blanshard next to Subway and the old Shiki Sushi location is becoming a Lebanese restaurant!!!!

Another fine dining/west coast cuisine restaurant is going to go there.

And fun fact: the big arches are there 'cause the building used to be a firehall.

The former Tamami space will be reinvented as ulla - yes, that's lower case. Pronounced, ooh - la, the restaurant will be headed up by chef Brad Holmes and his partner Sahara, both with extensive Vancouver and Victoria restaurant experience.
The theme will be modern westcoast, using great local ingredients with balance of sea and land-based fare and some vegan and vegetarian options.
Hopefully opening sometime in June.
